I personally never went on any trekking or hiking activity, few of my friends planned for a trek to KudreMukh, located in Chikkamagaluru District of Karnataka. As I am a travel enthusiast myself thought of giving it a try. We contacted a few of the travel agents who make our trip successful and carefully chosen one of the travel agents who been taking travel enthusiasts to KudreMukh trek for a weekend trip and make the journey memorable. We contacted Incredible Karnataka and booked our seats for their upcoming two-day trip to Kudremukh and surrounding places.
It was a rainy Friday night of June the monsoon season was picking up in India when we boarded the bus along with 15 other travel enthusiasts. We travelled all night from Bangalore to Chikkamagaluru district where the giant hills of Kudremukh stood. We all know the feeling of night travels on the bus for 330km which was a little uncomfortable, but the desire to see those magnificent, lush green hills and the anticipation of the trip kept us going.
It was a cloudy morning of Saturday when we woke up in Kudremukh, where the cool breezes and the excitement of being in a place you never been before was amazing. The travel company had arranged a hilltop guest house for us to get ready for a day filled with trekking and hiking activities.
The day one was a trek to top of the Kudremukh Hill, which was a 11 KM trek, which we were planning to cover by afternoon 2 PM. We gathered all our essentials and packed our lunch for the journey and headed towards the trek starting point around 9 AM.
The Karnataka Forest department has maintained the Kudremukh hills and the surrounding regions with at most cleanliness and made it a plastic free zone, one of the initiatives to protect the wildlife and the environment. So, carrying any item which contains plastic is prohibited and be penalized. The journey towards the peak of the giant Kudremukh hills, that resemble the face of a horse, after getting preliminary checks by forest department staffs and getting clearance to enter the forest area, we walked through the Magnificent forests and steep curved paths leading to the viewpoint. You should definitely look out for the leeches which will suck your blood near the ankle or the leg area. A leather boots with salt or Dettol sprayed to the feet is suggested before the trek. The weather was cloudy and breezy with the excitement to reach the top of the Kudremukh hill made the journey energetic and fun filled. We stumbled upon many small, segmented waterfalls and swamps where we filled our drinking water bottles for our journey.
We reached the top of the Hill at 1 PM in the afternoon, a little earlier than what we planned. It was raining a lot at the top, the view was covered with fog, cloud and what not. But as the saying goes the journey is always more beautiful than the destination. We clicked few pictures, had our packed lunch and took a moment to appreciate the beauty of mother nature where you are away from all the cell phone signals and internet connection. It was a blissful moment almost felt heavenly to be on a 1000mts above the sea level and experience the goodness of nature.
We were so immersed in reaching our goal to the hilltop, the journey seemed easier. Although we slipped along the way, stumbled across big rocks, and hit our heads with tree trunks, it was almost felt like at ease to trek a 11KM upwards. Then comes the downward journey which we started in the noon and targeted to climb back down before the sunset. Our legs had given up on us to make the 11 KM back home journey. Lots of regions backward journey looked new and unfamiliar, although it was the same path which we took to climb the hill. We reached the end point of the trek in the evening around 5 and the travel company bus was waiting to take us back to the guest house. Soon after getting back to the house, we relaxed for the day with a smile on our face with a feeling of achievement that we conquered one of the big hills in the western ghats of India. Later that day we had a nice meal tucked ourselves and our precious legs, which made this trek possible to bed.
Next morning, we visited a nearby Tea plantation which is one of the famous tourist attractions. The Falls called the "Soormane water falls" is majestic and beautiful. We had a quick dip and clicked some beautiful pictures of the nature and headed back towards the Bangalore City. There ends the journey with some unforgettable memories and a group of amazing people that we met. I hope you liked the article and enjoyed reading.
